How to Whitelist Devices on Fios Gateway

Want to lock down your Wi-Fi so only approved devices can connect? Whether you’re protecting against:

✔ Wi-Fi leechers (neighbors stealing bandwidth)
✔ Smart home hacking (unauthorized IoT access)
✔ Kid’s friends connecting without permission

This guide will show you exactly how to whitelist devices on Fios Gateway (CR1000A/G3100) using MAC address filtering, the most secure way to control network access.

We have two methods to Whitelist Devices on Fios Gateway.

Method 1: MAC Filtering via Admin Panel

Best for: Permanent, tamper-proof whitelisting

Step 1: Gather Device MAC Addresses

  • Windows: Open Command Prompt → Type ipconfig /all → Find “Physical Address”
  • Mac/Linux: Open Terminal → Type ifconfig → Find “ether”
  • Phones/Tablets:
    • Android: Settings → About Phone → Status → Wi-Fi MAC
    • iPhone: Settings → General → About → Wi-Fi Address

Pro Tip: Label each MAC address (e.g., “John’s iPhone – 12:34:56:78:90:AB”)

Step 2: Enable MAC Filtering on Fios Gateway

Connect to your Fios network (wired recommended)

  1. Go to http://192.168.1.1 (or fiosgateway.org)
  2. Log in (default credentials on router sticker)
  3. Navigate to:
  4. Advanced > Security > Access Control
  5. Turn on “Allow Listed Devices Only”
  6. Add MAC Addresses of approved devices
  7. Save & Reboot

Important: Any non-whitelisted device will instantly lose internet access!

Method 2: Guest Network + Whitelisting

Best for: Homes with frequent guest devices, most useful for families.

  1. Create a Guest Network (My Verizon App → Internet → Guest Wi-Fi)
  2. Enable “Allow Listed Devices Only” (same as Method 1)
  3. Whitelist only family devices on the main network
  4. Give guests temporary access via the Guest Network

🔹Bonus: Set Guest Network to auto-disable after 24 hours

⚡Pro Tips for Maximum Security

✔ Hide your SSID (makes network invisible to scanners)
✔ Change Wi-Fi password monthly (if not using whitelist)
✔ Monitor connected devices in My Verizon App

Troubleshooting Whitelist Issues

❌ Problem: Whitelisted device can’t connect
✅ Fix: Double-check MAC address (iPhone/Android sometimes use randomized addresses)

❌ Problem: Can’t access admin panel after enabling
✅ Fix: Connect via Ethernet (whitelisting may block Wi-Fi access)

❌ Problem: Smart devices (like Roomba) won’t connect
✅ Fix: Temporarily disable whitelist during setup

💡 Final Recommendations

✔ Start with 2-3 trusted devices (avoid locking yourself out)
✔ Keep a backup admin PC wired (in case Wi-Fi access fails)
✔ Combine with WPA3 encryption for maximum protection
